Accelerating progress toward demographic resilience through shared understanding and international collaboration.

The Demographic Futures Initiative brings together governments, researchers, organizations, businesses, and practitioners committed to strengthening demographic resilience.

By connecting people, knowledge, and practical experience across regions and disciplines, the Initiative helps accelerate collective learning around one of the defining societal challenges of the twenty-first century.

Why This Initiative Exists

Demographic change is reshaping societies across the world.

Population ageing, declining fertility, changing household structures, migration, and workforce transformation are creating new challenges for governments, organizations, and communities alike.

Around the world, valuable research is being conducted, innovative policies are being tested, and practical experience is being gained every day.

Too often, however, that knowledge remains confined within individual organizations, regions, or disciplines—limiting society’s ability to learn collectively and accelerate progress.

The Demographic Futures Initiative exists to help bridge those gaps.

Our Approach

Meaningful progress begins with meaningful understanding.

Research helps us better understand demographic systems.

The Initiative helps that understanding move between the people capable of creating change.

Rather than replacing existing organizations, the Initiative strengthens them by creating opportunities to learn from one another and build meaningful relationships around a shared mission.

Research → Knowledge Synthesis → Knowledge Exchange → Relationship Development → Collective Progress

Imagine…

A municipality in South Korea exploring how to create more family-friendly communities connects with a city in Sweden that has spent decades investing in housing, walkability, childcare, and public space.

Through a Knowledge Exchange, both leave with new ideas, new relationships, and new perspectives that strengthen their own work.

This is the kind of collaboration the Demographic Futures Initiative exists to encourage.
