Family Formation within the Urban OS Core is structured through the Urban Family Formation Environment. The framework examines the conditions through which urban environments shape the formation, development and long-term wellbeing of families.
Five interconnected conditions organize this layer of the Core. Each is defined by a diagnostic question through which the family formation environment can be examined across different urban contexts.

The conditions through which partnership, stability, practical feasibility, support and long-term wellbeing are enabled depend on the social, economic, institutional and urban environment in which families form.
