The Five Pillars Index: 2026 Global Edition

Measuring the conditions that shape long-term human wellbeing

The Five Pillars Index is a global benchmarking project developed by G.O.A.L. to assess how effectively different regions create the conditions for healthy, resilient, and sustainable societies.

While traditional indicators often focus on economic performance alone, the Index evaluates a broader set of factors that influence long-term human outcomes.

Built around the Five Pillars Framework — Environment, Movement, Nutrition, Knowledge, and Mindset — the Index provides a structured assessment of the foundations upon which individuals, communities, and societies develop.

Why The Index Exists

Modern societies face a growing number of interconnected challenges:

• demographic ageing
• declining fertility rates
• rising health pressures
• social fragmentation
• increasing lifestyle-related disease

Despite significant economic development, many regions continue to struggle with long-term wellbeing outcomes.

The Five Pillars Index was created to explore a simple question:

Which regions are creating the strongest foundations for long-term human wellbeing — and which are not?

The 2026 Edition

The 2026 Global Edition represents the most comprehensive version of the Index to date.

Scope

• 213 regions assessed
• North America
• Latin America
• Europe
• Africa
• Asia
• Oceania

Framework

• Environment
• Movement
• Nutrition
• Knowledge
• Mindset

Together, these pillars provide a multidimensional view of the conditions influencing long-term societal outcomes.

What Makes The Index Different

The Five Pillars Index does not attempt to measure happiness, wealth, or economic output alone.

Instead, it focuses on the underlying conditions that influence how people live, move, learn, eat, think, and interact with their environments.

The objective is not to identify perfect societies.

The objective is to better understand the foundations that support human flourishing over the long term.

Key Questions Explored

• Which regions perform consistently well across multiple pillars?

• Where do significant strengths and weaknesses coexist?

• How do different societal models compare?

• Which conditions appear most closely associated with long-term resilience?

• What can regions learn from one another?
